selves and their families. The girls who work in the bars are generally from the very poor Northern parts of
Thailand. Some are there to get money for their families and hope to meet a good man to “take care” of
them and really don’t want to work the bars. Then you have the other career bar girls this is a very high
percentage maybe as high as 60% who will try to have boyfriends sending them money every month and
will help there family at your expense. These girls will tell you they have left the bar and waiting
for you at their home with their families, but most will still be a “Bar Girl” |

No this is not true, most want to stay with their family's in there province but money does not allow this,
so they go and work in the larger cities if they have an good education. Then they send money home to
their families and forefeel their ambitions. |

Primary education is free, girls and boys start school at 7 or 8 years old and leave school at 12 or 13 years
old then they go on to high school for 6 six years if their parents can afford to pay for this further
education. You have to have a good “education” to get any job that’s worthy of doing. They leave school
with Por Hork, Mor Sarm, Mor Hork certificates |

So what are their employment options? |

Without a certificate of further education degree very little, farm work, fishing, factory work, selling on
the markets or as building site labourer, yes many girls work on building site in Thailand. All these job
will pay about 3$ a day. There is no national assistants money, if don’t work you don’t eat. EG: To work
as a shop assistant they will be expected to have certificate of further education. |
